Doula

You may find a doula through your childbirth educator, your doctor or midwife, your hospital or birth center or through friends. You may also contact us about referrals. There are some basic questions you may want to ask when interviewing your doula. These questions may include:

  1. Are you trained and certified? If so, by whom and for how long? How many births have you attended as a doula?
  2. What other training or experience in childbirth have you had?
  3. How much does your doula care cost and what is included in the cost?
  4. Have you ever attended a birth at my hospital with my doctor? What are your thoughts?
  5. What if I go into labor prematurely, will you be there for me?
  6. How do you see my husband's role in the birth?
  7. What types of things can you suggest to me for back labor?
  8. How do you feel about medications during labor and birth?
  9. How can I get a hold of you? Do you have a pager or cell phone?
  10. How do you feel about birth?
