Meet the Prez...

Connie Livingston BS, RN, LCCE, FACCE, CPCE, CHBE, CD(DONA)
Connie has been a registered nurse for 32 years and a Lamaze International certified childbirth educator for  28 years. She has worked with expectant families in a variety of settings in many parts of the US. Connie is charter Fellow of the American College of Childbirth Educators. And she recently completed certification as a Happiest Baby on the Block Educator (CHBE).

One of the expectant parents in her childbirth education class once called her the "Labor Whisperer" and she has since trademarked that name!

Connie is a DONA certified doula and, as perinatal education coordinator, created the first hospital based doula program at a hospital in Dayton Ohio - one of the first 10 in the United States. She has served as a DONA approved doula trainer for 10 years and has previously served on the Boards of ASPO/Lamaze, ICEA (past editor of the International Journal of Childbirth Education), DONA (past editor of the International Doula), and CAPPA (past Co-Director of Childbirth Education). The Ohio House of Representatives has honored her for her contributions to Maternity Care. She is also a member of AWHONN, and serves as Founder and the Program Coodinator of Advanced Birthing Concepts.

The author of over 850 articles and two books for both parents and professionals, she is a frequent conference speaker, and consultant to childbirth education and hospital-based doula programs.

She currently serves the Director of  Dayton (Ohio) Area Labor Support, Inc.  and the Editor of the International Doula Trainer Newsletter from DONA International. In 2007,  she became the Manager of The Doula Project in Dayton.  Connie and her husband have two daughters.

The move back to normal birth has generated much momentum.  First, Lamaze International created the Six Care Practices for Normal Birth.  Then came the three films of 2008 "The Business of Being Born", "Orgasmic Birth" and "Pregnant In America". 

Whether you are a birth professional OR an expectant parent, I hope you do not sit back and just watch this evolutionary revolution!  Be a part!  Educate yourself on normal gentle birth practices that are family friendly, mother-centered and baby friendly.
